This 50hr-class AP U.S. History (APUSH) course is designed to help students master the full AP curriculum while developing the analytical skills required for success on the AP exam and in university-level history courses.

COURSE OVERVIEW The course follows the College Board AP U.S. History framework, covering U.S. history from 1491 to the present. Content is organized chronologically and integrates historical thinking skills throughout each unit.

UNITS COVERED

Unit 1: The Meeting of the Three Peoples (1491–1607) Native societies, exploration, and the Columbian Exchange

Unit 2: Patterns of Empire and Resistance (1607–1754) Settlement patterns, regional differences, and colonial society

Unit 3: The Crisis of Empire, Revolution, and Nation-Building (1754–1800) The French and Indian War, American Revolution, Constitution, and early republic.

Unit 4: The Meaning of Democracy in an Era of Economic and Territorial Expansion (1800–1848). Jeffersonian democracy, nationalism, reform movements, and westward expansion

Unit 5: The Civil War & Reconstruction (1844–1877) Slavery, political conflict, war, emancipation, and Reconstruction

Unit 6: The Challenges of the Era of Industrialization (1865–1898) Industrial growth, immigration, urbanization, and social change

Unit 7: Economic Dislocation and Reform in the Age of Empire and World War (1890–1945) Reform movements, Imperialism, World War I, the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, the New Deal, and WWII

Unit 8: Redefining Democracy in an Era of Cold War and Liberal Ascendancy (1945–1980) Containment, civil rights, social movements, and Vietnam

Unit 9: Present Political and Foreign Policy Adjustments (1980–Present) Globalization, political realignment, technology, and contemporary issues.

SKILLS-BASED INSTRUCTION

This course emphasizes historical argumentation, cause and effect, continuity and change over time, comparison, contextualization, and analysis of primary and secondary sources.
